NEW! Read what OfSTED have said about our programme HERE

For more than ten years, Community Education at St Francis Xavier College (SFX) has been offering a wide range of short, 10 week, courses to adults three evenings a week on a termly basis complemented by extremely popular language classes held during the daytime.
Our administrative offices are referred to as "Broadoak" and consequently our community education department is also known as “Broadoak”.

The programme is focused on learning for interest or leisure and whilst we are delighted to certify attendance and course completion our classes don’t deliver qualifications. They are, however, carefully structured to offer challenge and progression – particularly in the language school but increasingly in other areas too, such as tap dance or floristry.

We have a highly skilled, experienced team of tutors who really enjoy teaching adults - several of them have been with us for many Showcasing the Guitar Class, Dec 2011years. SFX takes great pride in the adult learning and each year we hold a showcase evening to celebrate, with family and friends, through performance and displays, what has been achieved.

Our prospectus is published annually. It sets out the programme for the academic year which runs from September to July. Dedicated evenings are held for signing up before the start of each term but we actually accept enrolments at any time. There is the opportunity to try before you buy at a “taster” session - perfect if you are not certain that a course will meet your needs or are anxious about returning to learning and don’t want to commit the full fee which is non-refundable, until you are sure.

Community education classes are open to all adults - generally defined as being those aged 19+ - there are no borough boundary restrictions. Because we do not receive any direct funding there are no concessions and everyone pays the full course fee at the time of enrolling.

In addition to these courses, we occasionally offer professional network training in our authorised Microsoft IT Academy. Three to five day courses are delivered by a Microsoft Certified Trainer / Engineer preparing technicians to take MCP exams leading to prestigious qualifications in the IT technical world.
